Myburgh Bros ‘Kaalgat’ Steen 2024

R180.00

Joostenberg has previously made wines called Kaalgat (naked) under their ‘Small Batch’ range. It is now incorporated under the Myburgh Bros label. This wine is naturally made from a single old vine, organic vineyard.

Skin-fermented Chenin Blanc with no added SO2. Aromas and flavours of ripe apples and a chalky/apple core note. Dry, light-bodied, and refreshing with a touch of tannin.

Vineyard: Single, dry-farmed bushvine vineyard (planted 1987) in Malmesbury Shale soils on Klipdam Farm, Paarl (bordering Stellenbosch).

Winemaking: Hand-harvested, whole bunch fermented in clay amphora and open-top tank. Pressed after 12 days. Matured in amphora and barrique for 6 months. No additions.

Limited Production: 2200 bottles.

Myburgh Bros. – traditional winemaking, pure expression.

Brothers Tyrrel and Philip Myburgh’s great grandfather and his brother were making wine on the Joostenberg farm in the early 1900s. Back then the wine was made in a very traditional fashion, utterly devoid of the additives and manipulations that have helped define ‘modern’ wine. Sourcing fruit from Joostenberg and surrounding farms, Tyrrel and Philip have created this label to honour their forebears and have made the wines in the old style – simple, pure and honest.
